Minnesota Farmers Union is the legislative voice for family farmers, ranchers and rural residents in St. Paul and Washington, D.C. Our comprehensive policy is developed by the grassroots efforts of our members, culminating with policy debate at the annual MFU conventions. We cover issues including meat processing, climate change, supporting emerging farmers, biofuels and broadband, plus many more.
There are opportunities throughout the year to advocate for policies we support, including Lobby Day at the Minnesota Capitol and the National Farmers Union Legislative Fly-In in D.C. All members are strongly encouraged to participate in these events, with more information available at www.mfu.org/lobbying. We’ve been holding these virtually during the COVID-19 pandemic.
During Minnesota’s legislative sessions, Government Relations Director Stu Lourey is at the Capitol each day working with legislators on behalf of MFU members. He writes updates about what’s going on at the Capitol and in D.C. for the member e-newsletter; those updates are also posted at mfu.org/legislative-updates.
