MFU awards $1,000 scholarship to ACGC senior Daniel Williamson
May 16, 2019
Daniel Williamson has been active in Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) activities since he was a young child. He’s attended MFU Leadership Camp each summer, served as a delegate at the annual state conventions and was named a Farmers Union Torchbearer last fall, the highest honor a youth can receive from MFU.
The grassroots farm organization was delighted to award the Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City High School senior a $1,000 scholarship this spring, which will go towards his education at South Dakota State University. Williamson is the son of Donnel and Christa Williamson, MFU members in Spicer.
“Since its beginnings, Farmers Union has been a strong advocate for supporting youth education and building rural leaders,” said MFU President Gary Wertish. “We are pleased to honor Daniel with this scholarship after all he’s contributed to our organization.”
Williamson is also active in 4-H and FFA. He was named the Minnesota FFA Star in Agriscience at the Minnesota FFA Convention at the end of April.
“I have always been involved in agriculture. Whether it was riding with my dad in a tractor, or helping him with cattle chores, I was always exposed to it,” Williamson said in his scholarship essay. “My parents have taken the time to expose me to all sides of the agriculture industry through involvement in the community and Minnesota Farmers Union.”
