MFU welcomes Stu Lourey as new Government Relations Director
March 11, 2019
This week, Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) officially brought on Stuart Lourey, a resident of Kerrick, Minn., as Government Relations Director.
Lourey, whose family runs a grass-fed beef operation, previously worked on the staff of U.S. Senator Tina Smith, D-Minn., focusing on health care policy. He is a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minn.
“I’m passionate about the future of family farms and the vitality of rural communities,” said Lourey. “That’s why I’m excited to join the team at MFU – a grassroots, member driven organization that fights for people and communities I care about.”
Lourey’s duties will include lobbying on behalf of MFU members at the State Capitol, organizing for the annual MFU Lobby Day Drive-In and National Farmers Union Legislative Fly-In, leading members in policy preparation at the annual convention and other duties as assigned.
“We are thankful to have Stu as part of the MFU team,” said MFU President Gary Wertish. “His enthusiasm and strong support of family farmers and MFU policy are tremendous assets. We are excited to see what he will accomplish as part of the MFU team.”
Lourey is stepping in after previous Government Relations Director Thom Petersen was appointed as Minnesota Commissioner of Agriculture by Gov. Tim Walz earlier this year.
Lourey can be reached at (651) 288-4067 (office), (320) 232-3047 (cell) or firstname.lastname@example.org.
