MFU applauds selection of Tony Lourey as Commissioner of Human Services by Gov.-elect Walz
Jan. 3, 2019
Today, Minnesota Gov.-elect Tim Walz announced that State Sen. Tony Lourey, DFL-Kerrick, will serve in his cabinet as Commissioner of the Department of Human Services.
Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU), a grassroots family farm advocacy organization, is pleased with the appointment of Lourey, who has been a key proponent of the MinnesotaCare Buy-In proposal that MFU supports. He is also a farmer himself, the only one in the State Senate.
“Senator Lourey has been a strong voice for rural Minnesotans, particularly on health care,” MFU President Gary Wertish said. “He will be an excellent leader for the Minnesota Department of Human Services, as he’s shown the ability to work and listen across the aisle to look for health care solutions.”
MFU encourages the State Senate to confirm Lourey and looks forward to working with him in this new capacity.
