Minnesota Farmers Union’s strength lies in the advocacy of our members. With only about 2% of Americans farming today, it’s more important than ever for farmers to speak directly to policymakers about the policies that affect them most.
Farmers Union offers two major opportunities to meet with elected officials. On the state level, we hold a Lobby Day annually in St. Paul. We schedule appointments with legislators from all over the state, so you have the chance to meet with one from your area. We also frequently get the chance to meet with the governor, attorney general and secretary of state.
You can also join Farmers Union members from other states at the National Farmers Union Legislative Fly-In. We visit with members of Congress about what family farmers have on their minds. We also hear from United States Department of Agriculture officials about agricultural programs.
What elected officials remember most from meeting with constituents is impactful stories. Farmers who tell their stories to lawmakers have a great opportunity to enact change. Join Minnesota Farmers Union and we’ll help you tell yours.
