By Bruce Miller, MFU Membership & Outreach Director
Minnesota Farmers Union will offer a short County Officer Training session for county officers on Friday, Nov. 16 from 4:30 – 6 p.m. prior to the 77th Annual MFU Convention. The meeting will be held in the St. Paul Ballroom of the Delta Hotels By Marriott Minneapolis Northeast, where we are holding the convention.
It is open to all County Presidents, Vice Presidents, Secretary-Treasurers and other county officers. While the focus is on new officers, it is open to all MFU county officers who want to brush up on leadership skills.
Items that will be covered in this session include an introduction to Farmers Union; our mission, vision and facts and history; Farmers Union structure in our state and country; role of local officers; role of Farmers Union county organizations; organizing, designing and holding successful meetings, including the annual convention and special event or issue meetings; working with media and social media; legislative activity; building membership and how and where to recruit MFU members; and county activity ideas including when and how to spend county funds.
Additionally we hope to explore how officers view their positions and what are the biggest challenges leaders feel they face; the common themes and phrases we use in talking about MFU and how to talk to people about MFU; how can be become involved with MFU and what does it mean to be involved; getting people to attend MFU conventions, meetings and events. We will also discuss what further information or training leaders need.
