MFU President Doug Peterson in Japan with the WFO

St. Paul (April 9, 2013) – Minnesota Farmers Union (MFU) President Doug Peterson is part of a leadership delegation of National Farmers Union Presidents at the World Farmers Organization (WFO) General Assembly in Niigata, Japan April 15-18.

 “This is an opportunity to work side by side with other farmers around the world,” said Doug Peterson, Minnesota Farmers Union President. “Sharing our different viewpoints will help each individual attending gain new insights to the global agricultural community, strengthening innovation in this community.”

 MFU President Doug Peterson will also be joined by: National Farmers Union President, Roger Johnson; North Dakota Farmers Union President, Elwood Barth; South Dakota Farmers Union President, Doug Sombke; Wisconsin Farmers Union President, Darin Von Ruden; and Montana Farmers Union President, Alan Merrill.

National Farmers Union is a founding member of the WFO organization, and will key in the discussions on international agricultural policy. The objective of this third annual General Assembly is to provide an opportunity to discuss WFO’s statutory issues; as well as offer the possibility to farmers associations to discuss and share experiences in agriculture related key issues including trade, food security, climate change, education and awareness raising programs; sharing experiences on outreach activities, special programs, services, products; collecting best practices and case studies; stimulate cooperation and partnership among WFO’s members and agriculture related organizations; and build an interactive platform for sharing experiences and cooperation network.
